RESTORE AND GROW
Why only Offsett and Reduce your carbon footprint? Our Validated, Verified, and Registered Carbon Credits conserve endangered tropical rainforests in Papua New Guinea and generate historical economic growth and social transformation for its people.
OUR MOTIVATION
NIHT is a Purpose Driven company collectively inspired to apply our
talents and abilities to partner with communities in Papua New Guinea.
We are heavily invested in supporting the development of integrated
solutions and delivering reliable tools to those who need them most.
Together, we are transforming lives and the environment
through the NIHT Topaiyo REDD+ Project.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
SDGs are not just goals or requirements for us. We actively incorporate them into all aspects of our projects because the SDGs embody who we are and what we do.
ENDING POVERTY
In all its forms
Our project provides communities 56% of the profits of the project revenue, which go directly to land owners. Communities in the area live below the poverty line, and the financial resources that carbon credits provide enable the purchasing of food, health services, and other benefits to help alleviate the impact of poverty.
HEALTHY LIVES
and promote well-being for all ages
Our project provides communities 56% of the profits of the project revenue, which go directly to land owners. Communities in the area live below the poverty line, and the financial resources that carbon credits provide enable the purchasing of food, health services, and other benefits to help alleviate the impact of poverty.
QUALITY EDUCATION
promoting lifelong learning opportunities
Our project is assisting education in communities, specifically by developing access to online schools via WiFi access. The project proponent aims to be working towards their goal of 100% literacy for individuals 12 years old and over in the project area within the first 3 to 5 years of the project.
GENDER EQUALITY
empowering all women and girls
The project is addressing women’s issues through providing access to opportunities in clan and project leadership. Women have roles in committees and project activities and can exercise decision-making power outside of day-to-day clan activities.
WATER AND SANITATION
FOR ALL
that is available and sustainable
We are sourcing options for improved water quality and clean water access in communities. This is done in conjunction with communities, taking into account each clan’s individual needs and their input on what systems may work best.
MODERN ENERGY
affordable, reliable, and sustainable
We are increasing community access to alternative energy solutions. Currently, most clans do not have access to electricity, so the project is developing opportunities in water, solar, geothermal, and even natural gas electrification.
SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH
inclusive & productive employment for all
Community members have equal opportunities for jobs and employment-related to project monitoring and implementation. As our projects scale, a significant amount of employment opportunities for people in the project area will become available.
PROTECT & RESTORE ECOSYSTEMS
sustainably manage forests & biodiversity
Papua New Guinea is home to some 5% of the world’s biodiversity, and its rainforests are havens to massive varieties of flora and fauna. Industrial timber operations and forest conversion destroy key habitat for many species, and further threatens already endangered species.
COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE
Through urgent action
By eliminating industrial timber harvesting in the project area and the subsequent deforestation from secondary drivers, the project is reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by nearly 55 million tCO2e across the 30 year project lifetime
PEACEFUL & INCLUSIVE SOCIETIES
with accountable institutions at all levels
NIHT has taken an active role in gathering census data. Census and population data is extremely limited in these communities, and access to birth registration and other services are important goals for the project, as the project wishes to achieve fair benefit distribution and promote the growth of strong institutions in the project area.

ABOUT US
NIHT has achieved validation, verification, and registration of the NIHT Topaiyo REDD+ Project. This is an Agriculture Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) project in the southern third of the island province of New Ireland in the nation of Papua New Guinea. To date, we have produced 1,327,440 verified credits, corresponding to three (3) years of project activities and VCU vintages. We have the potential to generate a net total of 55,090,789 credits over the life of the project, averaging 1.83 million credits generated per year. Our program is distributing more than 50% of the net revenue to the individual local shareholders. There are 47,000 individual beneficiaries within our first Project Activity Instance (PAI), and we have worked diligently to ensure transparent and streamlined benefit distribution mechanisms.
CCB STANDARDS
Not all Carbon Credits are created equally.
The value of our credits are a direct reflection of the values of our company which in turn naturally align with CCB standards.

OUR PROJECT

Our accomplishment marks only the starting point of the opportunities available in Papua New Guinea to protect the rainforest, conserve local biodiversity, and enhance the traditional landowners and stewards of these rainforests through carbon credit production. The rainforests in NIHT's operation area are humid and tropical, ranging in elevation from sea level to 2,340m in the iconic Hans Meyer Range, home to many endemic and rare species. These high carbon storage regions are under severe conversion and degradation threat from legal and unlawful logging, uncontrolled subsistence farming, and conversion to oil palm plantations subsequent to forest harvesting instead of reforestation.

NIHT currently has an initial 330,000 ha (815,448 acres) in Konoagil Local Level Government area under contract. However, the NIHT Topaiyo Grouped REDD+ Project area is 2.5 million ha (6,177,635 acres), encompassing New Ireland Province, and East New Britain Province. We have multiple communities represented as Incorporated Landowner Groups (ILGs), enthusiastic, and ready to participate as additional PAIs. In addition to this, an even greater number of communities that meet the project baseline are completing their needed land titling and registration processes to become part of our program.

OUR CORE VALUES
NIHT operates in a radically different business model. We are a purpose-driven company bound by a sense of responsibility to create a better life for our PNG partners, our employees, their families, and the environment. Specifically, our primary objective is to contribute to the self-determination and betterment of PNG partners, the clans. Every decision we make, including choosing those who work for/with NIHT is filtered through our core values and primary objective. Our four core values are represented in our company logo by the four leaves :

TRANSPARENCY
We offer full transparency to not only anyone with a financial interest within the company, but also to the clans. This is a partnership initiative and the first of its kind in PNG with a foreign company. We also expect transparency from the clans and those we do business with in PNG.

ACCOUNTABILITY
We maintain the need to build upon transparent business relationships and practices while remaining accountable to our word. NIHT has built trust with the clans and government through consistently being honorable and following through on our commitments. We model this value to our PNG partners and hold them accountable to their commitments to us and our business arrangements.

TRUTH-TELLING
This is another core value that has elevated NIHT’s standing in PNG as a company that does business differently. In addition to transparency and accountability, we maintain the need to always be truthful in our intentions, claims, and communication both with the clans and government, and also our business investors/partners.

INTEGRITY
Truth telling, accountability, and transparency result in integrity. Far too often the people of PNG have been taken advantage of, misled, and abused because the motives of many foreign businesses have solely been about making money at the expense of the people and their land. Our business model is built on integrity. Our aim is to honor and esteem those we work with by valuing their humanity, respecting their diversity, and honoring their legacy. We see our partners as valued equals regardless of economic or social status.
